yeah all to familiar for me; First as a little kid, having many holiday BBQs at home, often w/ extended family invited. Then after I got married, having to shlep 60+ miles to one of my two SILs places for Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner. Not my favorite way to spend a day off, but its what we did to stay in touch and "connected", back before email, social media, or cheap/free long distance phone calls,. In between married and when I was little, were years that my parents would do Sunday afternoon visits to nearby friends. Then as a boy, for a couple reasons i usually found it more comfortable to remain with my Mom and chat w/ her counterpart wife/friend, while my Dad hung out in the garage w/ the husband/friend,. That makes far more sense now in the years since I transitioned :)
