I was 16 the summer that (then)Bruce won Gold at the Olympics. He mostly fell off my radar shortly after that, until she resurfaced as, Caitlyn, about the same time that I was beginning my own transition. While her apparent lack of awareness/"wokenes" hasnt endeared her to many in the Trans community, she is STILL a hero of mine.
