I totally agree that, Blanchard is a major league ahole who has done considerable damage in creating acceptance of Trans people in not only the greater Cis community, but in our own as well,. One problem however with that is AGP theory has just enough grains of truth to give it life. Yes there is quite often, early on a fetish aspect to dressing as a woman. Thats the elephant in the room that many of us are reluctant to admit. And for those who are already inclined to hate us, thats all they need,. See, you ARE a pervert, may you burn in hell, etc etc,,. Been there, got the tee shirt,. However once you begin to realize that your desires are far more complex than just a sexual charge, the entire fetish asspect turns to dust completely. I agree that AGP is a very nearsighted concept; its just focused on ones dick, not the wider picture that makes the whole person. Though I will add, just part time/private cross dressing, for whatever desires it satisfies. for some who are unable to fully transition due to their family or professional obligations, serves as a kind of relief valve.
Another thought is that perhaps Blanchard's problem isnt with correctly understanding Trans women, but maybe he is just very limited in how he sees Cis women,,. Maybe he simply doesnt realize that many of them ALSO get a sexual charge when they see themselves as sexy and attractive. I will admit that I frequently question my own (sexual)feelings and ask, is this the same way that a "typical" Cis woman would feel/think. While Im sure there are going to be some differences due to different lived experiences, since I transitioned several years ago now, I just go about my day to day life. I still have to get up and go to work every day, shop at the store, and maintain a house. But occasionally I stop for a moment and think how amazing it is to simply be happy w/ who I am now :)
