I completely respect you desire to be, your own woman. But if your BF were to ask, as you put it, your dad's blessing, then I wouldnt get too concerned. Your BF isnt asking for your Dads persmission, or what the asking price is for your dowery. Its more like your BF is asking your Dad(or Mom) if they will accept him into the family.
