Hi Justine-Paula, I sort of fell into Broadcasting about 18 years ago. I had worked in HiTech(R&D, Manufacturing, etc) many years before that. My first job was in Master Control at a small TV station in NH. It was mostly running "informercial" tapes on the weekend overnite shift. But what I really liked about it was that I was mostly alone during that time. The only people I typically interfaced w/ was the guy I relieved at 1AM, and the guy that relived me at 9AM. Fastforward to until recently, I was an Engineer for a large FM network w/ TX sites all over NH. Which required a lot of travel, mostly alone. This gave me a LOT of time to think about who I really was, and what I wanted for myself. That was when my "egg" started to crack :) Back when I worked Master Control, I used to tell folks that if they wanted to understand what I did, they should watch the old movie, Broadcast News, and pay attention to the first Control Rm scene about 20 min in; At one time or another Ive been every person in that scene :) Hours of bordem, puncuated by moments of terror,,. Ive spent many hours running those old Sony 3/4 in tape machines. The newer Master Control that was constructed during my tenure used the much smaller DVC tapes, but the system wasnt w/o problems; There was a device called, Dekocast that was used for adding various effects. However I gather that the early version of it wasnt so,, stable. Every once in a while it had this nasty habit of flipping the L/R audio 180 deg out of phase, resulting in that "hollow pipe" effect. But I was the only one who noticed it and even managed to isolate it to the Dekocast. Sometime, check out my Youtube CH w/ vids from my travels around northern NH:
